Discover Watford

So, as you will already be aware Watford is a picturesque, bustling town based north west of London. What you may not know is that there so much on offer, whether we are visiting for a staycation or temporarily calling it home. For the footy fans among you, Watford town is most noted for its successful football club, Watford FC, which has been part of the town since 1881. However football is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what Watford has to offer.

The Atria shopping centre, located in the centre of town, is one of the largest in the region, boasting a vast array of amenities. Such as, ample parking, designer shops, restaurants, a bowling alley and even a nine-screen cinema with an IMAX and a ScreenX 270o viewing experience. The shopping centre also plays host to a variety of events and activities throughout the year.

Want to eat out?

Watford’s High Street is also not to be missed. At a mile long, it is well established as one of the longest in the country, it spans from the Town Hall to the ‘Bushey Arches’. Along this renowned street you will find all manner of luxury shops, cafés and restaurants. Along with these great town features, the Borough Council is always working hard to host regular markets and town events – you can find all the upcoming events on their calendar, so there’s always something to do in Watford’s town centre.

While you’re there, be sure to take a walk through one of Watford’s award winning green spaces, for example Cassiobury Park. If you’re more of an indoor person, catch a live performance at one of Watford’s three spectacular theatre spaces – Watford Palace Theatre, The Pumphouse, and Watford Colosseum, although this is currently closed for a major refurbishment and is not due to reopen until winter 2023.

Travel Amenities

The town has excellent London travel links. The train will take you from Watford to London in as little as 20-22 minutes and will cost you between £6 and £26. The service is very regular with trains running daily, every ten minutes, so not to worry if you miss the first one!

Watford also has an underground station, with Metropolitan Line trains stopping at Wembley Park, Euston Station, King’s Cross St Pancras, and Liverpool Street in just under an hour. Perfect if you are needing to complete a daily commute or wish to visit the city.

You also have the cheaper travel option of the bus, naturally it does take longer (1h 40m) but if you’re not in a rush, it’s a great way to sit back and enjoy the sights. Costing between  £4 – £13.

With all these travel options available, you can leave your car parked safely in the inclusive parking space, and avoid stress of sitting in traffic!
