Eating Out in Watford on a Budget

When you stay in one of our luxury apartments in Watford, you’ll have a whole host of choices when it comes to dining. Each apartment has a fully fitted kitchen and a spacious dining area, so having a relaxing night in is always an easy option – whether you’re rustling up something yourself or getting takeout from a local restaurant. But on those days when you’d prefer someone else to take care of everything, there is a wide variety of budget-friendly eateries that are perfect if eating out in Watford on a budget:

Go Italian

Located on the High Street, Pepe Rosso is a popular restaurant and cocktail bar that prides itself on serving great value-for-money Italian food. The recently refurbished restaurant offers a stylish, contemporary location for any occasion and, at the time of writing, is offering a weekday lunch special where you can enjoy two courses for just under £12.

Flaming hot

Currently rated as number one on TripAdvisor for cheap eats in Watford, Southern Cross is a Greene King pub that’s a short walk from Watford Junction station. The pub’s Flaming Grill menu features flame-grilled steaks, burgers, platters and skewers alongside traditional pub classics. Various deals are also available, and the pub hosts regular quiz nights, poker nights and live music. You can even take the kids for breakfast with Santa in the run-up to Christmas – take a look at the website for details on dates and tickets.

Support our next generation

We love the idea behind the Restaurant at West Herts College, which gives you an opportunity to enjoy dishes created by our future culinary stars. The student chefs whip up three-course lunch or dinner menus under the guidance of tutors, with themed nights regularly held and a licensed bar on site. The restaurant, which is close to the town centre on Hempstead Road, isn’t open every day and menus change, so check out the website for more details.

Top rating

If you love Lebanese cuisine, Watford’s two highest-rated restaurants on TripAdvisor will be right up your street. Currently occupying the top spot, Nana’s Restaurant & Lounge offers authentic and affordable Lebanese dishes, plus belly dancing on Friday and Saturday evenings. Or Tarboush has four different atmospheric dining areas – the Garden Room, the Lantern Room, the Moroccan Dining Room and the Tent Room – where it serves an extensive selection of Lebanese and Mediterranean dishes.

The sushi secret

The organisers of Watford Market, where this lunch restaurant is located, call Sushi No Mai “one of Watford’s best kept foodie secrets”, so it’s certainly worth checking out if you’re looking for high-quality Japanese food and a low-cost lunch option.

Take a break

If you’re a coffee aficionado, why not take a break at Viento Coffee Company, an artisan coffee roaster based on St. Albans Road. Serving up delicious brews sourced from around the world, alongside a selection of pastries baked on site, it’s the perfect destination for a snack stop. Another great independent spot is The LP Café at the end of the High Street. If you like your breakfast, brunch or lunch accompanied by a soundtrack of crackling vinyl, this is definitely the place to go.

Love what you know

As well as being home to a vibrant mix of independently owned restaurants and cafes, Watford also boasts a wide range of chain restaurants. On those days or nights when you’re looking for something comfortably familiar, take your pick from Five Guys, Nando’s, Pizza Express, Wagamama, Frankie & Benny’s, Tortilla, TGI Fridays, and many more.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly accommodation option close to transport links and all the sights of central London – and would like the convenience of eating out in Watford on a budgetbook a stay at one of our luxury Watford furnished apartments.
