According to the OED, home comforts are: “Things associated with one’s home that contribute to physical ease and well-being”. So home comforts are even more important to you when you’re away from home because, basically, they make you feel better.
Because home comforts are so subjective, it’s difficult to make a definitive list of the best ones. However, we’ve asked around the office and have come up with what we think are the five best home comforts which most people will be able to relate to, and can easily be enjoyed in the home away from home comfort of a serviced apartment.
Number one home comfort is good old-fashioned home cooking! In fact, the BBC have so far made three series on the subject, Home Comforts. Whilst you’re staying in a Your Apartment serviced apartment, you can utilise the fully equipped kitchen to create one of the recipes which you can follow online thanks to your free WiFi!
Nothing gives you more of a feel for the comforts of home than a lovely comfy sofa. Whether you curl up with a good book, snuggle up with your partner or hide behind a cushion as you watch a scary movie, a sofa is one of the core ingredients when it comes to home comforts.
What better way to end a long day than relaxing in a nice hot bubble bath. If you’ve been pounding the streets of London, the heat of the water will soothe your aching feet. Or, if you’ve had a day full of work meetings, you can switch your brain off and relax into the evening with the promise of a lovely home-cooked dinner, followed by a good night’s sleep.
What better way to start the day than with a lie-in, especially if you’ve been sleeping in a nice comfortable bed! If it’s the weekend, you can legitimately snuggle under the duvet for a few minutes longer and luxuriate in not having to get up!
A great cup of coffee and a newspaper
Even though technology has almost obliterated the need for our morning newspapers, there’s still something comfortingly old-fashioned about having a paper to read over your morning coffee. Treat yourself to a lingering breakfast in a local café, or nip out to the local shop for a paper and a croissant to enjoy back at the apartment.
