Hygge in a serviced apartment

There’s a new word in town and people are simultaneously raving about it at the same time as being slightly unsure what it actually means. But if you want to experience hygge in a serviced apartment, Your Apartment will be happy to provide it.

Hygge (pronounced ‘hoo-ga’) is Danish for… well, it doesn’t have a direct translation. The best explanation is: ‘a complete absence of anything annoying or emotionally overwhelming; taking pleasure from the presence of gentle, soothing things’.

A lot of people are saying it means ‘cosy’ but it’s actually wider than that – it’s a feeling of cosiness and being in a state of contentment, which is a very personal thing and therefore can’t be defined precisely.

Hygge is all about enjoying the small things in life – those little moments which bring a contented smile to your face and refresh the soul. Whether you’re curled up on a comfortable sofa reading a good book, or having a great time with friends in cosy surroundings, you could claim to be hygge.

Over the years, the Danes have had plenty of time to develop their cosy indoor lifestyle. The long, cold winters with up to 17 hours of darkness have resulted in an indoor culture, with a focus on entertaining at home. It’s often said that it’s the little things in life that make the difference, and this Danish ability to find hygge in a multitude of everyday situations has helped the country to the top of the leaderboard in the world happiness rankings.

Experiencing hygge at Your Apartment

In terms of being away on a holiday, business trip or extended stay for work, hygge could be experienced at the end of the day when tired from your activities and sightseeing in London, you can sink onto the sofa and talk about what a lovely time you’ve had. Or maybe you’re staying in one of our serviced apartments for business and have invited colleagues who have become friends over for dinner – you’ve cooked a lovely meal from scratch and now you’re sitting around the dining table eating, chatting and laughing.

If you’re looking for somewhere hygge in North London, our serviced apartments are just what you need.  Don’t delay, make the most of our monthly offers!
