If you’re travelling on business, you need to be on top of your game. Unfortunately, stress is such a common part of corporate travel, it could have a negative effect, leaving you less able to handle yourself at meetings, presentations, CPD events etc. To help you try and mitigate the likelihood of getting stressed by travel, we’ve compiled our top 5 tips for stress free corporate travel.
When it comes to your timetable, you need to plan everything in advance, from your meetings and agendas, your route and mode of transport, to what you need to pack. You may need to take different things depending on whether you’re staying in a hotel or a serviced apartment.
If you’ve got an important meeting, you’ll obviously spend a lot of time preparing what you’re going to say and making sure your presentation is tip top, but you’ll also need to think about your outfit. When travelling, business people tend to travel light; what if you’ve only bought a couple of smart shirts or tops and when you’re checking the night before, you find marks on both of them? If you’re staying in a serviced apartment, having clean clothes ready for the morning is a very easy thing to deal with; simply put them in the washing machine, let them dry overnight, iron them, then you’re set to go looking fresh and spruce and ready to impress!
If you’re driving into Watford or, indeed, any other part of London, traffic jams aren’t the only things you have to worry about. Unrestricted on-street parking is virtually non-existent, and car parks are hugely expensive, even in hotel car parks. What you need to do is book a serviced apartment that has a parking space included in the price.
Allow plenty of time
Whether you’re driving in Watford, or London or taking public transport, remember to leave plenty of extra time to get to where you’re going. A lot of the time, things will go smoothly, but it doesn’t take much to cause a traffic jam or delays on the tube. Before leaving for your meeting, check the TFL website for status updates on the tubes and trains, or the London Traffic website which gives live updates about the state of the roads.
Keep contact details handy
Before you leave on your trip, it’s a good idea to put all the contact details of the people you’ll be meeting or dealing with into your phone. That way, if you’re running late, or need to get hold of someone in a hurry, the information is, literally, at your fingertips.
You would be very lucky indeed to have an entirely stress-free business trip and let’s face it, the more stressed you are, the more likely it is that you’ll ‘reward’ yourself for getting through a difficult day with a glass of wine/cocktail/beer and a slap-up dinner. Unfortunately, that would be the wrong thing to do as a poor diet contributes to your stress levels. In a serviced apartment you can take control of your diet to create your own meals that help reduce stress levels.
