You don’t have to wait until Valentine’s Day to make a big romantic gesture. In fact, your gesture would probably be appreciated more if it appeared to be spontaneous rather than at the behest of 14 February! If you’re thinking of treating your partner to a few days in London over Valentines or at any other time, here are our suggestions of things that could well cultivate the romantic mood.
At the movies
Snuggle up on the front row beds or back row sofas at the Electric Cinema in Portobello – hopefully, they’ll be showing a romantic film! Make the night even better with champagne and snacks from the bar.
Boating on the lake
Not for the winter, but after Easter, show off your rowing skills by taking your partner on a boating tour of the Serpentine in Hyde Park.
London is full of wonderful places to go for a romantic stroll, whether it’s through one of the Royal Parks, on the treetops walk at Kew Gardens, or along the bustling South Bank or the quiet canal in Little Venice, there’s bound to be somewhere to suit the two of you.
A day at the spa
What can be better than indulging in a bit of pampering in a warm, relaxing environment surrounded by fluffy towels, sauna and jacuzzis? London is full of spas and treatment rooms to suit all budgets.
Finding love in unexpected places
You can encourage romance by creating the right atmosphere, but sometimes it doesn’t matter how many candles you light, the mood isn’t right. Maybe you’re trying too hard to provide off-the-shelf ‘romance’, so try something unexpected instead. Sidestep the cosy bars, restaurants and jazz clubs in favour of something a little crazier, such as a walk over the 02, climbing a wall of ice, or a segway rally at Ally Pally.
A night in
Possibly the best romantic gesture is to simply spend time with your partner. Whilst the nights are still dark, you can draw the curtains, turn off all your devices, and simply enjoy each other’s company. Surprise your partner by cooking their favourite meal accompanied by a glass of something bubbly. Then, after you’ve done all the washing up, snuggle on the sofa to watch a film you’ll both like. If you’re whisking them away for a romantic break, make sure you rent a serviced apartment where you’ll have a fully equipped kitchen to create your three-course masterpiece in!
