What’s on in Watford this Summer

There is a lot to love about this part of the country – not only is it a perfect base for visiting London, but the surrounding Hertfordshire countryside is also packed with beautiful places to visit. Watford provides a whole host of events and fun things to do throughout the summer. So, if you’re staying in Watford this August – perhaps in one of our luxury serviced apartments – here’s our round-up of what’s on in Watford this summer.

Cassiobury Park

With its acres of beautiful green spaces and woodland, plus sports facilities, cafes, splash pools, bandstand, miniature railway, cycle routes, a nature reserve, and much more, Cassiobury Park is always a hive of activity during the summer. You can meet Cassiobury Farm & Fishery’s collection of rare breeds and exotic animals as it welcomes visitors on three open days in August, or pack a picnic and head to the park’s Big Bandstand on Sundays throughout August to enjoy live performances.

Everyone is welcome at Herts Pride 2022, which takes place in the park on 20th August. This all-inclusive event celebrating the LGBTQ+ community will feature performances on stage in the Big Top, a health & well-being marquee, a funfair, and the legendary Herts Pride Dog Show. Or head to Colourscape, a ten-day festival in the park that starts on 20th August. Offering an interactive world of colour, light, and music, this extraordinary space features a unique labyrinth of interlinked chambers, with musicians and dancers leading the way.

Go Big

Watford Borough Council has lined up a full schedule of community events this summer. Feel the sand between your toes at the completely free Big Beach or enjoy a balmy summer’s evening watching an old film favourite or new blockbuster under the stars as part of the Big Screen line-up.

There’s also plenty of free activities designed for children and young people aged 5-15. The Wat’s On summer schedule features a mix of pre-bookable indoor and outdoor activities including Arts & Crafts sessions, Sports Clubs, Gaming & Coding Courses, Stage Schools, Film Schools, and themed Adventure Lands, and more.

Pay tribute

Who needs the real thing, when you can spend two whole days enjoying the hottest tribute acts in town at BushFest? From Michael Jackson to Ed Sheeran, Whitney Houston to Duran Duran, each day features a packed line-up of some of the best tribute acts on the circuit, as well as food stalls and craft stalls, ending with a fireworks display on Sunday.

Further afield

At the Warner Bros Studio Tour: The Making of Harry Potter, just three miles from Watford, the Mandrakes and Magical Creatures special feature is on throughout summer. Look out for Cornish Pixies, Dumbledore’s beloved Fawkes and the animatronic Monster Book of Monsters, learn how Thestrals and Mandrakes were brought to life in the Creatures Workshop, and step through the doors of Professor Sprout’s Greenhouse.

With its nature and farm trails, Aldenham Country Park, just outside Watford, is a great destination for a picnic, walk or bike ride. Buy a Farm Trail Pass, book a slot for the Adventure Playground, or take a stroll around 100 Aker Wood, home of Pooh Bear, Piglet, and Eeyore. Or find out whether you have the memory of an elephant or the stealth of a tiger on the Ultimate Animal Challenge trail around ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, where you can test your skills against your family and friends – and the best of the best!
